What does membership in The American Legion mean?
Membership in The American Legion is membership in America. "Get Involved" is our motto.
It is also the primary reason why more and more dedicated veterans continue to devote their lives to their country. It is the background of involvement that creates and supports the feeling of camaraderie
which makes The American Legion the nation's largest and fastest growing organization of wartime veterans. Membership is the livelihood of The American Legion. Without the members there would be no Legion
programs. Without members we would have no voice on Capitol Hill. Without members there would be no accomplishment in assistance and support to veterans, their families, the community, state and nation.
We must offer every eligible veteran the opportunity to be a part of this great organization.
Membership Eligibility
If you are on active duty today, serving honorably, anywhere in the world, or have served honorably during any eligible war eras, become a member of The American Legion!

Membership Eligibility Requirements
April 6, 1917 to November 11, 1918 (World War I)
December 7, 1941 to December 31, 1946 (World War II)
June 25, 1950 to January 31, 1955 (Korean War)
February 28, 1961 to May 7, 1975 (Vietnam War)
August 24, 1982 to July 31, 1984 (Lebanon/Grenada)
December 20, 1989 to January 31, 1990 (Operation Just Cause - Panama)
August 2, 1990 to today (Operation Desert Shield/Storm)Persian Gulf War
