''STILL SERVING AMERICA''

American Legion Post 192, Auxiliary Unit 192, Junior Auxiliary Unit 192, and the Sons of the American Legion Squadron 192 are very active in the community. Being the only American Legion Post in Columbia County, we feel committed to supporting the community in all facets of service. We support three Junior ROTC Programs at local High Schools, providing them with air rifles and uniforms. We provide donations for drill teams competition, scholastic and leadership awards. We send sent boys to Boys State and three girls to Girls State each year {this is one of the most prestigious entries on a college application}. We provide patriotic ribbons to schools for ceremonies. We raised over $40,000 for five families in distress. The Post has hosted the patients from the local Veterans Hospital and the Georgia War Veterans Home for days of fishing, bingo, horseshoes, pool and meals. The Post has contributed over 2000 volunteer hours at these facilities and numerous additional hours at local nursing homes. We support the annual Hug-a-Bear program. The program provides- stuffed animals to the Columbia County Sheriff's Department, Martinez Fire Dept., Grovetown Fire and Police Departments, Harlem Fire and Police Departments, and the Rebecca Moon Foundation. We collected 2400 stuffed animals this year. The Post has hosted a Children's Fishing Rodeo for children of the community, or disabled/disadvantaged children. The Post has three ''Kids Helping Kids'' programs a year. The Columbia County Sheriff's Department comes out to fingerprint children. The Martinez Fire Department comes out to give fire safety hints to the children. The Post participates in the annual Veteran's Day parade, Martinez Christmas parade, and the Columbia County Red, White, and Blue Veteran's Celebration. The Post provides Thanksgiving Food Baskets to the needy throughout the County. The Post teams up with ''The Southern Chrome'' Bikers at Christmas to provide Christmas for needy families in Columbia County. The Post offers a local scholarship, and supports a T-Ball team. The post provides flags to local schools. The Post honorably retires unserviceable flags for the entire CSRA. The Legion Family participates in the ''Red Ribbon Drug Awareness Program at schools and welcome center. The Legion Family collected 150 pounds of food for ''the Spooky to be Hungry'' program in Columbia County. The Post has members that participate in ''The American Heart walk' $650.00', Cancer Society $3400.00, Diabetes Assoc.,$250.00 and Special Olympics and Habitat for Humanity. The Legion Family carried and donated over $30,00.00 in paper products, water, food, clothes, toys, money and household items to the ''Hurricane Katrina'' victims in Mississippi. The Legion Families provided fruit baskets and flags for soldiers coming back form Iraq. The Legion Family sponsors an "Americanism Art Contest'' for the schools and provide medals for it. The contest is always held during the Columbia County Veterans Red, White and Blue Celebration on Memorial Day weekend. The Legion Family always participates in the Memorial Day and Veteran's Day events.
